Looking into trading my car for an older one?

I currently drive a 1998 Volvo S70. It's been great, but I feel like I need a change right now. I'm looking into trading it for possibly an older Honda Prelude, maybe around 1996 or a Mitsubishi Eclipse around the same year. Any problems I should look into with these cars? I'm mainly considering trading it because I don't get the greatest mileage in my car, barely 20mpg, we have a Japanese mechanic who we can rely on and some parts will have to be replaced within 6 months.
