Is it just me or is the world getting sicker?

Or am I just becoming cynical? Seems years ago when I was growing up in the 1980s and 1990s the world was less of a threat and it seemed we had less to worry about. Even when I was an adult in the early 2000s it seemed there was less to worry about. It seems to me there are more sick and twisted people in this world than before. Or was I just oblivious to it all?
